This is an image from my semester project at Digipen. The entire animation sequence is about 20 seconds long, so it's a "short" short. If the animation doesn't embarrass me too much I will post the whole thing when it's done.
I did a sketch of this for my storyboard class, and turned it into my pet project for the week. I would advise any artist to go to Ikea and fill up a few rolls of reference. Scratch that, anyone go to Ikea. Its like going to a zoo for furniture and accessories, but free.
We were given free reign to draw whatever we wanted to for this weeks sketchbook assignment and so I drew ikea furniture and this bug. I used corel painter and photoshop, I have recently discovered that a lot of digital artists do thier line work in corel and then color in photoshop. This is a great method considering how obviously digital photoshop makes the lines look. Corel is like butta'!
This is hands down the best sports drink, frost glacier freeze. I try to choose objects that have some sort of significance to me. I really like the paper bag, I think I might just do a paper bag next. I will probably take a better photo once this thing dries in the next one to two weeks.
I did this perspective robot drawing based off of some sketches I have been doing of machinery lately. Its not for homework, just my own needs. I took a lot of the design elements from an interesting looking tractor I saw on a walk that day.
The assignment was to take a photo of our street and transform it into a medieval version of itself. I stretched some truths but I think you get the idea. I did the lines traditionally in ink and the colors in photoshop. I think you can see my comic book inspiration on this one.
This is one of the seven paintings i'm doing for the arikha adventure guerrilla style paintings series. I'm really trying to paint more accurately and cleanly and be more bold with color choices.
I was working on a design of a zombie face with lots of blood but it wasnt working out very well as a pumpkin stencil. This drawing worked much better for that. The annoying part about turning a drawing into a pumkin carving stencil is that you have to thicken and connect everything so your design doesnt break off of the pumpkin when you are done. I had to use a lot of toothpicks the day after to keep the rotting pumpkin in the same shape.
One of the only areas I dont usually have a hard time keeping clean is the bathroom. Its strictly business when im in there, so I dont spend anymore time there than I have to. This week I gave myself a reason to be there for an extended period of time. This is for Painting class.
it sure is challenging painting things that are painted white. i shouldnt have picked such a busy composition for how little time I had. Happy none the less.
On my jogging route there is a large powerline tower at the top of a hill. Ive used it in photos for other school projects, it reminds me of the last scene in the film seven. A womans dog came by and tried to drink my solvent, I was able to prevent that catastrophe.
I had a lot of paint left on my palette after a recent painting, so I stepped out on the balcony to paint the big fir tree. I worked this one really fast so it feels pretty "fresh".
we had a substitute in painting this week, this is the still life composed by a man who painted happy layouts for lilo and stitch. headless mannequin? ball pit ball and heater? We have to make it creepy he said. I could not agree more.
Peter showed us an artist that uses line weights to make really busy drawings read. His name is Luc Desmarchelier and he's a stud with line. I was in class thinking about how I wish I could draw like that guy and figured there was no better time than the present. It was no Luc Desmarchelier, but a fun venture.
we were supposed to draw trees for layout class this week and I had to cheat a little bit and draw a tree that I know isn't in redmond. I used old school pen and ink, scanned and painted flats in photoshop. almost looks like a nice t-shirt design
This last weeks plein air painting, next week were moving indoors to paint some interior environments. I will continue to paint outside on my own for homework.
this the the 85 percent complete version my character model. Im sure my professors will give me plenty to fix so I say 85 percent. Looking forward to taking things to the next level with this guy. No pun intended.
Here is the basic shapes of prancelots head rendered from my file in 3DS Max. I'm working on the body right now,and I will probably update with the all of it put together next.
For Art 230 weve hit the ground running, im happy to really be diving into a medium that I really want to feel confident with. The day started overcast, then got sunny for about an hour and then went back to being cloudy. The result really made it confuding for me to choose colors and values. Im really looking forward to doing more of this kind of thing.
Here is the final shady shores render. It always amazes me how much the lighting changes the scene, or completes it. you spend weeks sometimes working on all of the modeling and texturing hoping that it all pays off in the lighting. I definitely feel that it payed off here. Im ready for more.
Ive been working on blog post one hundred for a little while, I wanted to make sure that it would be something fun and personal. Anything Batman is both of those. here is to one hundred more. Whooo!
what you see here is my exterior scene for CG 300 "shady shores retirement housing". Most of the models are about complete, the textures need plenty of work still, the lighting is non existant. I need to put some glass in the windows and some pretty pink curtains.
Here is the finished short, someone pointed out to me that its really more of a music video. I think they might be right. Enjoy, and remember that we have no formal training in sound design, just instincts. This was shot with my Canon Digital still camera and edited in Adobe Premiere, sweet huh? If heavy metal or images of fake blood and gore bother you, then make sure to wear headphones and crank up the volume.
A tease of cinematography group awesomes upcoming short film, "cold and flu season". should be done by this time next week, today we finished shooting. Brains anyone?
