eets not a tuma!

I tried to use reference to sculpt a very fierce looking bull.  I think if I do a part two on this and add a bit of noise to indicate fur and nail the colors, it will look a little bit less shocking.  Still, for thirty minutes I'm not disappointed.  More to come hopefully.

Lunch crunch

I haven't posted in awhile because I recently made the transition from student to professional.  I have relocated to San Francisco and am working as a 2D and 3D artist on mobile games at NaturalMotion studios.  I have a small backlog of personal work to post from the past month or so, but for now here is a lunchtime sketch I did yesterday.

something different

I don't have a ton of work with females as the subject matter.  I gravitate more towards cars, guns and action hero type designs. So I have been practicing sketching and rendering females to help balance out my skill set and make sure that I am capable of completing any design be it male or female.  Here is an action hero female.

CG315 Final -The Rooster Rock Hotel

This is a composite of images from my final assignment in texturing class.  This was the last project I had to work on for my final finals.  Its a funny feeling to know that I am done.

ART 234 final

I have been working myself quite hard this semester, as it is my last.  A wise man chooses his electives based on how little work he must do each week to pass, a crazy man takes Art 234.  I have just finished a six page epic about a commuter in the future.  Joe wakes up late for his 9-5 job in corporate society and like so many must navigate the perils of traffic and mayhem.

Star Wars life drawing

Some real life storm troopers posed for the life drawing club this Sunday. These are 2-5 min poses. There was no giant skull however, so I had to make that part up.

Thumbnail drawings of space ships

I got one of those brown paper sketchbooks in San Francisco. I am really happy with how white jelly pen looks it it. these are some quick thumbnails I worked on between classes last week.

The infamous lantern assignment

I really was hoping that this year we would get something other than a lantern to texture. I think folks are probably getting tired of seeing the same lantern in every DigiPen students portfolio. At any rate it is great practice. I used to hate lighting in 3D, it used to seem like such a frustrating chore. However, having taken a little bit more time to understand the tool I am finding it to be one of the most fun parts of building the scene.

3D paint overs

3D paint overs are a big part of our workflow on the game. It helps the Tech team understand how we would like to see the art assets arranged in the scene. It determines exactly which props we need to make if we do not already have them. Finally they give us a goal for the final lighting.

More trees

This is a fully functional version of a tree unlike last weeks impostors. I have been encountering some strange issues with my transparency sometimes not completely being invisible. Whatever, it fixed itself by the end.

Alpha status

The game is at Alpha status now, meaning we have all of the major features in the game. Next is beta where it will actually be ready for public testing. We have made some major leaps in the last few weeks.

Enchanted forest

This weeks texturing assignment was a forest scene. Ferns are among the most fun things to make in 3D, so I made two of em'

airplane drawings and the atomic bomb

I did the atomic bomb as an example of a meta-panel. The idea is that each of the drawings further the emotion of the whole page and are simultaneous. The other two pages are drawings I did in flight from Chicago heading home. "Excuse me stewardess can I get your honest opinion on this battleaxe?"

Art 234 - The comic book class

I am really enjoying the sequential art course so far. Our first assignment has been to just dive right in and make a few sequences about timing. We will see how happy I am with the time consuming assignments in a few weeks when my course load starts to weigh on me.

Post break update

I spent a lot of time over the winter vacation working on concepts for our work this semester on Salvage youth. Here is a small sampling.
